‘Raavan’ is made on Rs 120 crores budget and has been shot in a modern day vision of the adaptation of Indian epic Ramayana. ‘Raavan’ has the constitution of Sita getting abducted by Raavan and Rama fighting for her. But the climax is a surprise and there is a twist to the new aged Ramayana penned by Mani Ratnam.

Story
Dev (Vikram) is a duty minded police officer who falls in love with a classical dancer named Ragini (Aishwarya rai). He likes her character, her intellectual mind with innocence and her attitude and is spell bound with the impression that she is unconventional like him in every aspect.
After a few reel flow and songs, the lead stars decide to get married and soon land up in setting down in martial bliss. Dev learns that he is posted to the Maati town which is in northern India and is asked to take up his duty as soon as possible.
Maati is ruled by a tribal named Beera (Abhishek Bachchan) who is like a demon god to the populace in the town. He rules the whole place with his equation of power and makes his word as the saying of the lord, to the populace of maati.
As soon as Dev joins the duty, he learns about Beera and wants to eliminate his evil shadow from the populace of the Maati Town. The only way he traces out to do is to vanquish Beera in all aspects like a thunder lightening. According to a perfect plot, he rips open Beera’s ruling and changes the fortunes of Beera into misfortunes.
Beera is fumed and enraged with the deeds of dev and wants to corner him in his dutiful posts. He kidnaps Ragini and forces Dev to come in search into the dense forests. The jungle is dense and scary as expected and the reel flow is witnessed with a lot of emotions, confusion and acting skills amalgamated with scenic locations.
The forest place becomes a war zone to dev and Beera and it replicates the past epic battle of Ramayana, which happens in between Rama and demon Raavan. Here in the battle, Beera becomes Raavan and dev becomes Ram and a battle in between good and bad or evil takes place.
Finally as expected good takes on bad and wins the war. Dev clips Beera and is happy to take back his Ragini. But there is a serious twist in the story line as Ragini or Sita falls in love with Beera and refuses to go with Dev.
The climax is a suspense which must be seen on the big screen. But it is the most relishing element of the entire movie, which must be seen on the big screen.
Performances
The movie revolves around Aishwarya rai, Abhishek Bachchan and Vikram and so the three stars the cynosure in the film. The three stars have their own acting credentials and need no receipt of explanation for her flawless acting performances.
The others star like govinda play the role of Sanjeevani Kumar, replicates Hanuman character in the epic Ramayana. Actor Ravi Kishan and Nikhil dwivedi play the roles of Siddharth and Laxman Pratap Sharma in the movie. South Indian actress Priyamani plays the role of Serena ort Soorpanakha in the movie. Manisha Koirala, Bipasha Basu (surprise element) and Ashish Vidyarthi play their brief roles very effectively.
Music in the film is by AR Rehman and needs no judgment; it has come up splendidly and suits to the theme of the subject. But there is a note that Rehman’s music lacks the past zeal which was witnessed in the films like jeans, Sakhi, Bombay and so on.
Cinematography by Santosh Sivan and screenplay are highlights of Raavan.
Direction by Mani Ratnam is flawless and will be a masterpiece among the films released in the year 2010.
On the whole, ‘Raavan’ is a cinematic treat to the Indian cinema audiences and is worth a watch in this season
